T-Mobile Wing hands-on

var digg_url = ‘http://digg.com/gadgets/T_Mobile_Wing_Hands_On’; The T-Mobile Wing is a Windows Mobile 6 phone, alright — and the specs aren’t anything to write home about, especially not for $400. 200MHz CPU, EDGE data, QVGA display. And yet we find ourselves mysteriously attracted to the T-Mobile Wing. It’s nigh-sticky soft-touch finish, it’s thin profile (for a WM QWERTY slider, anyway), it’s divinely clicky d-pad and keys, it’s rubbery keyboard that we just didn’t think HTC could make any better. Check out the pictures, decide for yourself; but if you’re a T-Mobile customer, if you’re willing to plunk down this thing is kind of a no-brainer.%Gallery-3346% Permalink | Email this | CommentsOffice Depot Featured Gadget: Xbox 360 Platinum System Packs the power to bring games to life!

World’s highest cellphone call made with Motorola Z8

Posted by admin 28 May, 2007 (0) Comment

Filed under: Cellphones var digg_url = ‘http://digg.com/gadgets/Motorola_Z8_used_on_Mount_Everest_to_make_a_call’; He did it, British climber Rod Baber made a cell mobile phone (apparently using a MOTORIZR Z8, not a satellite phone) call from the top of Mount Everest. In fact, he made the record breaking call twice: the first to a voice mail account, the other to his wife and children. He even sent a text message to Moto which read, “One small text for man, one giant leap for mobilekind - thanks Motorola.” Real cute, Rod. The Motorola sponsored “world record” was made possible by a Chinese mobile base station installed with a line of sight to the north ridge. Officially, the calls were made at 29,035 feet (about 8,848 meters) in temperatures of -22 degress fahrenheit (-30 degrees centigrade) — so cold that Rod had to tape the batteries to his body just to keep them active. We’re not sure where he stored the banana-shaped Z8. Of course, anyone who has ever made a call from a commercial aircraft (hey, it happens) knows that it’s really not a record, but who are we to argue with Guinness?[Via BBC, thanks Mook] Read | Permalink | Email this | CommentsOffice Depot Featured Gadget: Xbox 360 Platinum System Packs the power to bring games to life!

Apple iPhone on AT&T for five years?

Posted by admin 28 May, 2007 (0) Comment

Filed under: Cellphones var digg_url = ‘http://digg.com/apple/Apple_iPhone_on_AT_T_for_five_years’; There are carrier exclusivity agreements, and there are carrier exclusivity agreements — and Apple’s iPhone deal must have been pretty sweet for Cupertino to guarantee their new hotness to AT&T and AT&T alone for five friggin years. USA Today reports the supposed half-decade deal precludes Apple from developing a CDMA handset in that time (duh), meaning that if you live in the US and don’t want to move to AT&T, it’s going to be 2012 before you even have a chance at an iPhone. Better still, Today reports that Cingular’s arch-nemesis Verizon is claiming to have an iPhone-killer in the wings. According to Denny Strigl, Verizon CEO, “We do have a very good response in the mill. You’ll see that from us in the late summer.” It’s war, people, make no mistake about it.[Thanks, Eric] Read | Permalink | Email this | CommentsOffice Depot Featured Gadget: Xbox 360 Platinum System Packs the power to bring games to life!

Pandora’s music streaming gets mobile with Sprint

Posted by admin 28 May, 2007 (0) Comment

Pandora’s tumultuous penchant for locking out US-based listeners based on licensing messes (thanks, RIAA) has taken a back seat to its new over-the-air launch with Sprint. While AT&T customers have had MobiRadio for years, Sprint customers tired of streaming Sirius will have a new reason to use that wireless data for music, so if you’ve got an EV-DO handset, get that phone browser up and hit Pandora’s site. What you’ll get in return is a Java applet that gives you access to Pandora’s streaming content catalog — access is free for 30 days; past that is $3/month, naturally. Read | Permalink | Email this | CommentsOffice Depot Featured Gadget: Xbox 360 Platinum System Packs the power to bring games to life!

Nissan NA warns that cellphones could disable intelligent keys

Posted by admin 28 May, 2007 (0) Comment

Filed under: Cellphones, TransportationFor proud owners of Nissan’s newest Altima or Infiniti’s G35 sedan, we certainly hope you don’t habitually stuff your shiny new I-Key in the same pocket as that diminutive handset, or you may return from your next stop to find yourself totally immobile. In a rather bizarre (and strangely ambiguous) announcement, Nissan North America has claimed that owners of the 2007 Altima and G35 should make certain that their “intelligent key” is kept at least “one inch away” from their cellphone at all times, as getting too close for comfort could cause the keys to be “erased, rendering them unable to unlock or start the car.” Interestingly, a Nissan spokesperson stated that the company found “incoming and outgoing calls had the potential to alter the electronic code within the I-Key,” and as if that weren’t tragic enough, the keys seemingly can’t be reprogrammed afterwards. Of course, the firm assured everyone that the issue was only in “a very small percentage” of the total keys (and cars) sold, and while a new iteration will be out this fall, you can presumably rent a car and drive to your dealer for a replacement if the glitch hits your whip. Read | Permalink | Email this | CommentsOffice Depot Featured Gadget: Xbox 360 Platinum System Packs the power to bring games to life!

RAZR 2 V8 gets hands-on review

Posted by admin 28 May, 2007 (0) Comment

MobileBurn got themselves a hands-on with the hot new Motorola RAZR 2 V8 — if you don’t think it’s hot, at least admit that it’s what the original RAZR should have been. The most notable change is obvious, and very welcome: no more hump, chin, or lump used to accommodate the chunky internals. The semi-touch screen is also an interesting variation on the usual touchscreen style, with tactile buzzing feedback when one of the three touch buttons on the external screen are pressed. The pre-production model had a poor shutter button, which is a bit of a disappointment since this is usually a well used button, and considering the effort put into the external screen. (Let’s hope that this’ll get fixed for production models.) The reviewers found that the main keypad was great, with a not-too-rubbery feel, and the UI is an improvement in all the areas that count — snappy, clear, and customizable. The refinements make the RAZR2 V8 sound like a winner to us: a pity it had to be such a long time coming. Read | Permalink | Email this | CommentsOffice Depot Featured Gadget: Xbox 360 Platinum System Packs the power to bring games to life!

Also packed in your kit is the “Global Support Pack” which includes your SIM card and user reference guide to accessing the global 24 hour free tech support and a free calling card to do it with, no matter where you might be.
