Carphone Warehouse has shut down OneStopPhoneShop

Carphone Warehouse has shut down OneStopPhoneShop, the online retail business it bought only two years ago.

Carphone’s online and off-the-page businesses – OneStop, e2Save, ThePhoneSpot and even Carphonewarehouse.com – have been under intense scrutiny from the networks since the start of the year because of high levels of low-spending customers, customers downgrading tariffs and high churn.

Online retailers such as OneStop and Dial-A-Phone were picking up between 5,000 and 10,000 connections per week at the time of the acquisition, beating The Link and getting close to Phones 4u, despite having significantly lower operating costs.

Carphone said there would be redundancies, although parts of the OneStop operation will now be absorbed into e2Save. However, OneStop is based in Crewe, while e2Save is based in Loughborough.

Carphone is believed to have invested in more sophisticated systems to make its online businesses less dependent on manpower.
