Samsung launches I7500, The Company’s First Android-Powered Mobile Phone.
Seoul (Korea Newswire) April 27, 2009 05:08 PM — Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., a leading mobile phone provider, today unveiled the I7500, its first Android-powered mobile phone. With a launch of I7500, Samsung became the first company among the global top three mobile phone manufacturers to unveil an Android-powered phone.

The Samsung I7500 is a cutting-edge smartphone, featuring a 3.2″ AMOLED full touch screen and 7.2Mbps HSDPA and WiFi connectivity, giving users access to Google™ Mobile services and full web browsing at blazing speeds.

The Samsung I7500 offers users access to the full suite of Google services, including Google Search™, Google Maps™, Gmail™, YouTube™, Google Calendar™, and Google Talk™. The integrated GPS receiver enables the comprehensive use of Google Maps features, such as My Location, Google Latitude, Street View, local search and detailed route description. Hundreds of other applications are available in Android Market. For example, the application Wikitude, a mobile travel guide, allows consumers to access details of unknown sights via location-based Wikipedia articles.

One of the huge features missing from Android at its initial launch was proper widget extensibility — as far as the official SDK was concerned, what you saw on the home screen when you took your phone out of the box was what you got, no questions asked.

Fortunately, this is a marquis addition in 1.5, and the official Android Developers Blog is detailing exactly how this is all going to go down. In short, it looks like devs have complete control — as it should be — with the ability to infinitely tweak widget update intervals and appearance. As any G1 owner can attest, this action can’t possibly come soon enough.

Dell+Google =gPhone?

We love rumours,Well a rumour on the internet was that Google and Dell are working together on a mobile phone naemly the gPhone .Well a Dell spokesperson has denied this! Dell have said no hardware will debut at the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona and also they will not be at the Expo.

Google was rumored to be bringing a mobile phone to market as the Google Phone (GPhone/gPhone),but these rumours were quashed with the announcement of Android.

Google has released the software development kit for its newly launched Android mobile operating system.

Google is offering developers a slice of a $10 million (£4.83 million) prize fund, split between the 50 best software applications for Android.

The writers of the best 50 apps for Android will land grants of $25,000 each, followed by ten $100,000 and ten $275,000 grants. The rest, $5 million, will be handed out after the first Android-powered handsets have been developed.

Wow thats a lot of money to be won ! i think this a great way to get new mobile apps out their even start the new (web) mobile 2.o era.
