O2 sells out of iPhone 3G in hours…

Posted by admin 7 July, 2008 (0) Comment

O2 UK the sole distributor of iPhone 3G in the UK this morning started taking orders via it’s website for pay monthly iPhone 3G’s. The demand was so huge that most people were struggling to even access the site and within a few hours the 16GB model had been taken off and a short while ago O2 put a message on it’s site stating:

“Due to huge demand for the iPhone 3G, we’re currently out of stock online. Come back on 10th July for more information.”

This is bad news for customers who wanted to upgrade as online is the only way O2 was allowing customers to do this. O2 also further annoyed it’s potential customers today by telling people that iPhone 3G would now not be released until around Christmas time.

If your looking for an iPhone 3G then going in-store on the 11th July may now be your only option and looking at the demand it looks like there are going to be many dissapointed people.

UPDATE: Visit the O2 Online Store on Thursday 10th July for further update from O2.

T-Mobile to offer 999 euro pre-pay iPhone

T-Mobile has issued a press statement regarding the court order Vodafone brought against the rival mobile company regarding the German deal for the iPhone.

Vodafone got the order, through a court in Hamburg, claiming that the way the iphone is being sold in Germany, exclusively through T-Mobile, is wrong for that particular territory and customers should not be forced to sign up to a 2-year deal.

The German Vodafone chief executive Friedrich Joussen said in a statement that they want consumers to be able to buy the iPhone without tying themselves into a long contract.

T-Mobile will now offer an unlocked iPhone for 999 euros, which equals about 720.

Before Vodafone stepped in and got the court order, customers had to sign up to a T-Mobile contract costing a minimum of 1,176 euros in order to buy the 399 euro phone. In the UK, the iPhone is 269, with a minimum of 18-month contract with O2. An unlocked, or pre-pay version is not offered.

“Everyone clearly wanted to get a piece of the Apple iPhone pie, and are trying to make things hard for Apple. A similar pre-pay offering is planned for the French launch, so the iPhone business model is not rolling out as smoothly as Apple would have liked,” our insider said.

O2 and Carphone curb iPhone thieves

Posted by admin 19 November, 2007 (0) Comment

iphone-uk1.jpg

O2 and Carphone Warehouse’s decision to place large numbers of live demonstration iPhones on display appears to have paid off, with only four ‘official’ thefts of the handsets.

O2 said that it had three iPhones stolen from its 450 stores, while Carphone said it was only aware of one device being stolen.

It is not known how accurate the official figures are or whether more iPhones were in fact stolen.

Before the iPhone went on sale, O2 sales director Mark Stansfeld said: ‘We’re taking measures to make sure we keep an eye on them, but the most important thing to recognise is most people are honest.’

One of Carphone’s smaller stores had to make do without a demonstration iPhone after its only device was stolen.

The handset was swiped during a busy period at the compact store in Soho last Wednesday. A member of staff said the thieves used a knife to slice through the alarm cable before the device was pulled from the display unit.

Unlimited Data Bolt-on for o2 users

Posted by admin 28 September, 2007 (0) Comment

O2 has announced that on 1 October 2007 it will launch three new unlimited data “Bolt Ons” for Pay Monthly and Pay & Go customers.

These plans have no doubt been launched in order to bring O2’s “ordinary” tariffs more in line with the iPhone-related data offerings, something that was hinted at during the iPhone launch.

The O2 Web Bolt On is available to Pay & Go and Pay Monthly customers for 7.50 per month.

This “unlimited” deal is aimed at those who only want to browse the internet and send emails and is subject to a fair usage policy which operates above 200MB usage per month, or approx 1400 internet pages per month.

For pay monthly customers who want to connect their handset to a PC or use a data card, O2 launches O2 Web Max for 30 per month.
